Signum Regis

Summary

Signum Regis is a tall, narrow, ornamental typeface inspired by the signatures of medieval European kings and emperors. It has a low x-height with exaggerated swooping ascenders and descenders, producing a distinctive medieval aesthetic. Its ornamental curls and swashes are modified by an extensive set of special ligatures that reflect the flourishes of scribal handwriting.

Signum Regis is a display font intended for larger sizes: titles, headers, or oversized self-important signatures (like the kings of old). You can decrease the line-height to create ornamental overlap between ascenders and the text in the previous line, or you can even fit smaller text into the gaps between ascenders in a line. (Check out the sample images for examples!) Signum Regis is a perfect choice for royal proclamations, pamphlets, scrolls, and other accessories for LARPing, cosplay, RPG campaigns, and other medieval-themed worldbuilding project, or any time you want your signage to have that extra stylish flourish!
